Two MPs from Norfolk are paying a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, today.
It comes after the Government announced the estate- which is being held up by over 4 thousand supports- will be rebuilt in full by 2030
"It's required quite a lot of work"
James Wild represents North West Norfolk:
"It's required quite a lot of work in making the case regarding the safety issues here. The RAAC concrete does have an end of life. Expert reports have helped to make that case along with the campaigning.
"Ever since Steve Barclay became Health Secretary he has been focussed on sorting out this issue- and we've seen the fruits of that.
"The money that's been allocated for the RAAC programme is protected and it'll be there moving forwards. Hopefully Hospital 2.0, the modernised design will mean we can bring things forwards and can spend money on a new hospital vs holding an old one up".
"I know how vital that local service is"
"The Health Secretary rightly said the QEH would become unsafe if it goes beyond it's life-span. Local people understand that and are concerned about the safety. So I think making sure the delivery of the new hospital is on time, is key."
"It means there's really good buildings for patients and staff- which is important. But it's a real vote on confidence in the long-term future of the QEH. I know how vital that local service is"
