Two further asymptomatic Covid testing sites open in Norfolk

The centres are for people who don't have symptoms of coronavirus.

People in Norfolk have two more places they can go for Covid-19 tests now.

Asymptomatic mobile testing units are up and running in Dereham and Watton.

The sites are specifically for people who don't have symptoms of coronavirus.

Around one in three people who have the virus don't show any signs, so it's hoped regular testing will help find people who are spreading the disease without realising it.

The local public health team says as lockdown continues to ease and we spend more time with people outside of our household, it's vital that people get tested regularly so they are assured they're not at risk of spreading the virus unknowingly.

Deputy Director of Public Health Diane Steiner said: "As lockdown restrictions continue to gradually ease we all need to play our part in keeping ourselves and each other safe and helping to have a steady return towards a more normal way of life.

"We know that one in three people who have Covid-19 don't show any symptoms and increasing testing within communities helps to alert those who might be spreading the virus without realising it."

The programme is already being offered in other parts of the county, including: Swaffham, Thetford, Great Yarmouth, and Norwich.

How can I get a test?

People who don't have symptoms can simply drop-in at a centre and receive a lateral flow test.

Anyone who does have symptoms - a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste - should not visit a drop-in centre and instead book a test via the NHS website or by calling 119.
