Two people have been arrested and more than 40 vehicles stopped during a police operation to tackle dangerous driving and people using the road illegally in Thetford.

Norfolk's roads policing team escorted drivers to a site along the A11 to perform checks last Thursday (October 13).

Motorcycles, vans and lorries were among the vehicles stopped, with only five leaving the site after drivers were found to have committed no offecnes.

30 traffic offences were recorded by police during the operation. Four vehicles were prevented for leaving the site for being defective.

One person was arrested on suspicion of drug driving - with a further driver arrested for producing fraudulent documents.

Sergeant Joe Simon, from Norfolk's roads policing team said: “These action days are integral for making Norfolk’s roads a safer place."

"This successful operation saw a number of drivers being dealt with and only five of the vehicles escorted onto the check site leaving without any offences detected.

"This is a great indication of the level of expertise the officers in our team.

“Whilst it is disappointing that 30 offences were detected, it reiterates the importance of our work to target road related offences on a daily basis.”

“These action days provide the perfect opportunity to send a direct message to offenders, who choose to continue to drive dangerously, that they could be stopped at any point and will face punishment.”
