The first GoGoDiscover Tyrannosaurus-Rex sculpture has been unveiled at Chantry Place in Norwich in celebration of National Dinosaur Day (15 May). Prideasaurus took centre stage underneath the illuminated rainbow on Chantry Square and provided an exclusive look at what the 2021 GoGoDiscover trail promises this summer.

Sponsored by Norwich BID and designed by local artist Martin Wall, Prideasaurus is a 2 metre tall dazzling rainbow dinosaur, featuring thousands of colourful gems applied by hand from head to tail. Shoppers were invited to get up close and take selfies with the sequinned T.rex sculpture, with the option of making a donation to children's charity Break, which delivers the trail in partnership with Wild in Art.

The Break team was also on hand during the day to tell people about GoGoDiscover and the charity's vital work across East Anglia in providing lifelong support to children and young people in care, on the edge of care or leaving care.

Peter Marron, GoGoDiscover project manager, said:

"We were so excited to unveil Prideasaurus on National Dinosaur Day. The presenting partners of GoGoDiscover 2021 are Norwich BID and Chantry Place so this was the ideal opportunity for them both to be involved in celebrating this national event. We can't wait for everyone to see the Prideasaurus and the remaining 19 T.rex when they hit the streets of Norwich in July."

Stefan Gurney, Norwich BID, said:

"We're thrilled to have our sculpture unveiled on National Dinosaur Day. We just love the idea Martin created for our T.rex and the way he has painstakingly brought Prideasaurus to life with such attention to detail is amazing. It was lovely to see the reaction of shoppers as they came face to teeth with him today!"

Paul McCarthy, general manager at Chantry Place, said:

"Prideasaurus was just the perfect GoGoDiscover sculpture to unveil underneath our rainbow on Chantry Square. We were delighted to host this sneak peek of one of the brilliant sculptures which will be in the city this summer."

Running from 12th July - 11th September, GoGoDiscover is a 10 week trail delivered by Break in partnership with Wild in Art. The T.rex trail will see 20 sculptures including Prideasaurus stomping into Norwich city centre. All sculptures are sponsored by local businesses and uniquely decorated by artists from across the region and beyond.
