Teenager jailed after week-long crime spree in Wisbech
He stole from a supermarket and carried out two robberies
A teenager who went on a week long crime spree in Wisbech has been jailed.
19 year old Oluwagbemileke Awoyemi, of North Brink, stole from a supermarket and carried out two robberies within the space of a few days in March.
His spree began on 5 March this year, when he stold a basket of goods from the Asda in North End before stealing a bike outside.
Two days later he entered a shop on Harecroft Road wearing a balaclava, demanding cash from a man at the till. He took around £45 before escaping on a bike.
On March 9 a wman in her 50s had her phone snatched by Aboyemi in Wisbech town centre.
Awoyemi was caught after he attempted to sell the phone and the owner of the shop alerted police.
He was arrested on Victoria Road on March 13 and was found to be carrying a knife.
He was charged with theft of a bike, theft from Asda, two counts of robbery and two counts of being in possession of a knife in a public place.
He admitted to the offences at Peterborough Crown Court and was sentenced to two years and two months behind bars.
Detective Constable Pete Wise, of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said: “This was a good spot by one of our Special Constables, who was in the right place at the right time.
“We do not know what Awoyemi’s intentions were the day he was arrested, but we do know he had already carried out a knife-point robbery and was then found with another knife on him.
“I would appeal to the public to let us know about any concerns that someone may be carrying a weapon.”
