Following a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries at an allotment site in Lowestoft, Suffolk Police is asking residents to ensure their sheds and outbuildings are secured and look out for unusual activity.
There have been 12 incidents reported at an allotment site in St Margarets Road since Friday 8th October. In many cases, shed padlocks have been cut or broken and doors damaged.
A spokesperson for Suffolk police said: "In many cases nothing has been stolen, however we would urge people not to leave expensive items and machinery inside sheds and to take expensive equipment home."
They also say that the manner of damage suggests that these properties were broken into by force and are requesting owners to consider installing crime prevention measures such as CCTV and security lighting as a way to help make them more secure.
To enhance security, police are also urging residents to keep their property security marked, insured, secured and locked away after being used.
"We are appealing for people to be on the look-out for any suspicious behaviour and report any persons or vehicles that appear unusual or out of place" the spokesperson says.
They add that information from witnesses is often more crucial than forensic evidence gathered from the scene of such a burglary
