A bridge over the River Great Ouse near Downham Market is closed for the foreseeable future, after a 'serious structural defect' was discovered by engineers.

The Stow Causeway Bridge has an issue with one of its supports, meaning it is no longer safe for traffic.

Norfolk County Council's Highways team sat the're 'exploring' the option of shoring the structure up with a temporary support until a permanent fix.

However in a statement, the authority wrote "at this early stage there is no guarantee this temporary fix is achievable. So the road may have to stay closed until permanent repairs are carried out."

Pedestrians are still able to use the bridge, while a diversion is in place for vehicles.
