1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards are putting their best feet forward to raise £5000 in 24-hours for charity.

The proud Welsh Regiment will take on the mammoth 2945-mile run on St David's Day and all money raised will be donated to Dreams and Wishes; a charity dedicated to making life-changing requests for seriously ill children come true. The Welsh Cavalry have five squadrons taking part and each one will complete 589 miles.

Event organiser Regimental Sergeant Major WO1 David Chant said:

"St David's Day has always held a special place in 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards calendar and is a day we look forward to celebrating every year. It brings everyone together which is important in a small regimental family like ours, but this year due to restrictions we cannot get together as one big family like we traditionally would. So, we have decided to do something completely different whilst still involving everybody."

The 2945-mile run will see each of the four squadrons based at Robertson Barracks, Swanton Morley run over 589-miles and fellow QDG soldiers deployed around the world will also be putting on their running shoes to help raise funds. Those soldiers serving abroad including Kenya and on Op CABRIT in Poland will combine their mileage to cover the same 589-miles distance.

RSM Chant continued:

"Here in Norfolk, we'll be running around the barracks and completing the mileage throughout the day. The first runners will set off at 6am and we hope to have covered the distance by 5pm."

"Any money that can be donated would be gratefully received, even if it's just the price of a coffee, it will go some way to helping someone's dream become a reality."
