Norfolk records most speeding drivers in the region in 2020
There were 53,472 motorists caught breaking the limit last year
Norfolk recorded the highest amount of speeding drivers in the East of England in 2020.
According Confused.com, which commissioned research on the issue, Norfolk was the only county to see a rise in motorists getting caught.
In total there were 53,472 found to be breaking the speed limit, which is a rise of around 3.7% compared to 2019, where there were 51,591.
The highest speed recorded last year was on the A47 at Postwick, where a driver reached 135mph.
In 2019, however, the highest speed a motorist was caught driving was 146mph on the A47 at Terrington St John.
The same data shows the worst roads for speeding in 2020 was:
- A134 Thetford (7,152)
- A1067 Taverham (3,506)
- A140 Colman Road, Norwich (1,876)
Across the border into Suffolk, the number of drivers caught speeding in 2020 totaled 41,220, compared to 42,448 in the previous year.
It makes it the second lowest county in the region for motorists found breaking the limit, with Cambridgeshire sitting at the bottom.
In total, 35,698 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit in the county last year, which is a drop of almost 22%.
