Several people are critically injured in hospital after a series of crashes on the roads of Norfolk today.

Police were called at around 6:36am to the A1122 in Downham Market after a collision involving five vehicles.

A number of people were seriously hurt, with one person airlifted to Addenbrooke's.

A woman was also taken to hospital by the air ambulance after a crash between a HGV and blue Peugeot 207 on the A134 at Crimplesham near Stradsett at around 7:15am.

The driver of the Peugeot has suffered potentially life changing injuries.

There was also a serious collision on the A47 between Hokcering and Honington just before 11am involving two cars.

One of the drivers, a woman in her 40s, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

The other driver, a 17 year old boy, suffered minor injuries.

In a rare statement, South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss said: “I was extremely saddened to hear of the two serious road traffic accidents in South West Norfolk this morning and my thoughts are very much with the victims and their families.

"I’d also like to pay tribute to the emergency services for the professional way in which they responded to these distressing events.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to all three crashes to come forward.

Earlier it was announced a 92 year old woman who was hit by a bus in Norwich on Saturday had died in hospital.
