Seal rescued from between rock and a hard place in Lowestoft
The pup got stuck at Ness Point on New Years Day
A seal has been rescued after getting wedged between rocks on the Lowestoft seafront.
The RSPCA were called on New Years Day after the pup was heard by a local paramedic walking near Ness Point.
Inspector Nicky Thorne was called in along with Dan Goldsmith from Marine and Wildlife Rescue.
All were able to lift the unfortunate pup free. He was checked over and found to be unhurt, and was soon released back out to sea.
Inspector Nicky said: “This certainly was a memorable start to 2022! Thankfully it was a straightforward rescue and a nice team effort."
"I am grateful for Dan’s help and to the caller who stayed with us throughout the rescue.
"We managed to get the seal out of the rocks and then relocate him to a less hazardous beach. The paramedic also joined us to watch - it was a Happy New Year’s Day all round.”
Rescuers say if you spot a seal in trouble on a beach you should call the RSCPA, and not attempt to push it back out to sea yourself.
