Over 18,000 have now signed a petition calling for more protection of seals. One of those is Duncan Baker, the MP for North Norfolk.

The Conservative MP has criticised how many members of the public have treated seals on Horsey beach and told us he wants Parliament to debate ways to tackle the issue.

The petition wants to introduce laws that "specifically protect seals against dog attacks" and makes it "unlawful to touch, feed, chase or worry a seal".

It comes after numerous reports that members of the public have been harassing seals and standing too close to them in order to take pictures and selfies this summer.

Mr Baker called these scenes "distressing and disgraceful" continuing to say that the protect of seals is an immensely important local issue, considering "North Norfolk has some of the largest seal colonies in the UK."

He also told us he's happy to lead the Parliamentary debate on the issue, if one comes about.
