Change needed to make Norfolk's roads safe for horse-riders
The 'Pass Wide and Slow campaign' aims to spread awareness of safety issues Horse riders' face across the country
More needs to be done to ensure Norfolk's roads are safe for horse-riders.
That's according to local equestrians who are supporting today's national 'Pass Wide and Slow' Campaign which aims to raise awareness of the issue.
According to the groups Social Media pages, the ride is taking place to raise awareness and "to TRY educate drivers on how and why to pass horses".
It's believed an awareness ride-out will be taking place in every postcode across the country, either today or at some point in September
Norfolk will be holding their awareness ride on September 26th.
Susi Rogers Hartley from Wiggenhall St Mary is going to take part in the ride. She was injured by a driver back in April and told us she's still struggling to recover from the incident, today.
"I was hit by a car on a single-track road and it's taken me months through psychotherapy and the support of very good friends to help me back on the road.
"But every time I go out, I still feel sick."
She also told us that she believes Norfolk Police should "be more pro-active" about the issue.
We contacted the Police for comment and they told us they are committed to tackling the issue and are supporting this week 'Vulnerable Road Users Campaign'.
They told us that project EDWARD "aims to highlight the dangers faced by vulnerable road users and reduce fatal and serious collisions", which they say, includes horse riders.
According to the latest data from Department of Transport, there were 22 road accidents in Norfolk that involved an object or animal being on the road, in 2019.
