Norwich teenager jailed for life for attempted murder
It follows an attack in a car park in 2021 which left the victim with memory loss
A Norwich man has been handed a life sentence after a serious assault two years ago which left his victim with memory loss.
19 year old Michael Maylen, of Music House Lane, has been sentenced at Norwich Crown Court after admitting to attempted murder.
He will spend at least eight years behind bars.
The attack happened in a car park off St Andrews Street in Norwich on June 13 2021.
The victim, who had been talking to Maylen in the moments before the attack, had his head hit off of a wall before he was punched, kicked and stamped on.
He lost consciousness and suffered 32 stamps to the head and 13 punches to the face.
Maylen then searched the victim's pockets, before dragging him around the car park and leaving the scene.
He was arrested shortly afterwards on Dereham Road.
After his arrest, Maylen told officers he had taken a cocktail of drugs and that he had “battered” someone.
He'll spend at least eight years behind bars after admitting attempted murder.
The victim suffered serious head injuries and spent eight weeks at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, before being transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich.
In a victim impact statement read to Norwich Crown Court, he said: “I find that I am nervous and jumpy around people, even friends."
"If someone moves quickly and unexpectedly, I flinch back out of instinct, expecting to be attacked.”
DC Chris Edwards said: “The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and having seen the brutal force used in this attack, it’s a miracle this man is still alive."
"I’ve been a detective for many years but this is one of the most violent assaults I’ve ever seen.
"The level of violence used against a man who is incapable of defending himself is abhorrent.
"I wish to thank the witness that called police and then remained at the location, providing vital information via telephone leading to the offender’s swift detention.”
