The streets of Norwich will today be brought to life by a kaleidoscope of colours- as the city's pride parade returns, after a two-year old covid imposed hiatus.

Those from our local LGBT society will today be making their way from St Peters Street to Gaol Hill and Exchange Street from 1pm- which will all be closed from just before 1 until 2:30pm.

"It's all about discovering who you are"

Brandon Thomas is the UEA Pride's social secretary.

He says this event has a really special meaning for him, personally:

"It's going to be my first pride. Since Covid and becoming a University student I have not really had a chance to go and a see a Pride parade, so I'm looking forward to the event and I know a few of my friends are going. It's going to be a great event to really enjoy who we are as people."

"Events like these are a great way to learn about other people and their experiences. It's also a good chance to compare all this with your experiences and then maybe discover something new about yourself from somebody else. It's all about discovering who you are regardless of your sexuality, gender or identity. It's all about building on who you are as a person and having a great time with friends and new people."

"In Norwich there is quite a high diverse area of so many people"

Mr Thomas went on to tell us that the city's a really tolerant place, and things are nationally moving in the right direction- generally speaking:

"Back home in Suffolk, it's not really spoken about as much- there wasn't really that many people who identified as LGBTQ+ inside of that area, but in Norwich there is quite a high diverse area of so many people, with so many identities and this event is a great way to get to know them."

"The general consensus is that things are moving in the right direction for everyone in the the UK. But there has been some set backs in Government, with them not refusing to ban trans-conversion therapy. I feel like it's something that is going to brought up in Pride as something to campaign about, as conversion therapy is such a harsh thing and I believe it should be completely banned."
