Norwich man handed £2k lockdown fine wants refund after PM and Chancellor found to breach rules
The 38-year-old wants the Government to pardon and refund everyone who was given a fine for breaking lockdown rules
A Norwich man who was handed a £2,000 fine for breaking lockdown rules says he wants a refund, now the Prime Minister and Chancellor have been found to have broken their own rules.
Bryn Richards was given the fine for taking part in an outdoor gathering with more than two people in November 2020 and thinks its wrong that anyone was ever given such a punishment: "I don't think they or anyone should be fined. I think that everyone who was fined should be pardoned and be refunded in full".
He went on to tell us that the punishment he was given did real damage:
"I mean it almost bankrupted me.
"The £2,000 fine was pretty much the entirety of my bank account, compare that to Rishi Sunak, he wouldn't even bend over to pick up that sort of money, let alone worry about pay this sort of fine. I got a criminal record out of this as well and they won't, I guarantee you".
He told us that he fears the Prime Minister will stay on. But he feels Mr Johnson and Rishi Sunak should have left their roles long ago: "I don't think they should resign over this, but they should have resigned over the fact that they imposed these regulations on us in the first place.
"I consider those rights to be tyrannical and rights violating, they shouldn't have done it.
"Boris has recently said he would do lockdown again, even after the all evidence of how bad it is- he's so tone deaf. I don't think he's going to go, I think he's going to hang onto power for as long as humanly possibly he wants to be in there for ten years or more.
Boris Johnson has since issued a 'full apology' and confirmed that he has paid the fixed penalty notice.
The Prime Minister says it did not occur to him that a meeting in the cabinet room might have been a breach of the rules.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has also apologised.
