Norwich City defender Max Aarons has been called up to England's U21s squad, ahead of fixtures against Italy and Germany.

Aarons currently has 18 caps for England at the U21 level and 7 for appearances with the U19 squad.

He has made 176 appearances for the Canaries senior team across all competitions, scoring 15 times.

England U21s play Italy away on September 22, with a game against Germany at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane on September 27.

U21s manager Lee Carsley said: “While we need to plan for the forthcoming international window, I would like to echo Gareth Southgate’s sentiment and keep any comments about this squad to a minimum to respect the nation’s period of mourning.

"All of our thoughts remain with the Royal Family.

“These fixtures against Italy and Germany signal the start of a season that will conclude with the U21 European Championships next summer so the challenge that lies ahead is clear for all of our players.

"We are also mindful that we play a part in supporting Ian Foster's age group with their preparations for next year's FIFA U20 World Cup.”
