The public is to get more time to share their views on a huge £26m regeneration project after very few people responded.

Great Yarmouth Council hopes to revitalise the riverside area of North Quay after securing funding from the government’s levelling-up fund.

It legally needs to conduct a public consultation period to hear the plans and it is now looking to extend this period for a further four weeks.

It will now close on October 13, as so far the level of public engagement has been “quite low” according to council documents.

North Quay’s riverside regeneration is described as the “most significant development for a generation” for the town.

The council hopes it will become a new vibrant destination and boost Yarmouth’s economy.

But there is a “high risk” that the council may lose the vast government funding if it does not spend it by March 2026.

Negotiations have started in efforts to buy land in order to make way for the project, which could result in compulsory purchase orders.
