Over 40s in Norfolk encouraged to get booster jab booked
Eligibility for boosters has been extended in Norfolk.
Covid-19 boosters for 40-49 year olds and second doses for 16-17 year olds are now available in England.
People from these age groups should be able to book an appointment via the National Booking Service.
For now, these newly eligible groups are not able to walk in for their jabs.
Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust delivers large-scale vaccination centres across Norfolk. Dr David Vickers, medical director, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, said: “The recent announcement that those aged 40-49 will be eligible for a booster six months after their second dose, and that 16–17 year olds can access a second dose 12 weeks after their first dose is great news.
“We look forward to welcoming these newly eligible groups to our vaccination centres after 22nd November. Our vaccination centres are extremely busy, so we’re asking people from these cohorts not to visit the centres until they have a booked appointment as our teams will not be able to vaccinate them.”
Cath Byford, Chief Nurse of NHS Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group, said individuals eligible for booking their vaccinations or who can walk into their vaccination centres are strongly encouraged to do so.
Additionally, she said vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and your family.
Reducing covid-related hospital admissions is said to help the NHS cope better during the winter months and reduce routine and planned care disruptions.
Norfolk and Waveney continue to perform well in the national vaccination program, with 93% of people aged 18 and having at least one vaccine, and 90% have received two. In comparison, 90% and 86% have been vaccinated nationally.
Norfolk and Waveney have administered about 200,000 booster vaccinations as of 11th September.
