Norfolk charity urges Next Govt. to create more safe routes for refugees
This year's Refugee Week has run between June 17th to 23rd
A charity that supports Refugees in Norfolk is telling us that the Next Government needs to ensure that there are swift and safe routes for people to seek sanctuary, here.
The appeal comes as 'Refugee Week' ends, today. With all of the political parties out-lining what they're planning to do regarding immigration, refugees and asylum seekers.
"It's about getting them swiftly into accommodation"
Gee Cook is from 'New Routes' based in Norwich:
"This conversation has to done with a little bit more empathy. The people traffickers are the ones who should be targeted in all this. The people who are going to desperate measures to get their families over here, shouldn't be attacked".
She says there's one major issue that must to tackled, first of all:
"They get their status and then they become homeless, because they get so little time to be removed if they're in temporary accommodation, like hotels. So it's about getting them swiftly into accommodation because then they can actively seek work".
