Norfolk Police urge football fans to act sensibly ahead of the Euros
Additional officers are going to be out across the county tonight.
Norfolk Police is urging football fans to consider not drinking excessively before the kick off of England's Euros quarter-final match in Rome tonight.
Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions fans in England aren't able to travel to the game, so many are expected to be watching at home and in pubs and bars instead.
Officers are appealing for people to do their part in creating a responsible atmosphere for the match, and have been warning people against drinking large amounts of alcohol.
Norfolk Police says it's been working closely with licensed premises across the county in the run-up to the UEFA tournament.
It says there will be an increased police presence in Norwich and town centres in the county, to minimise the risk of any anti-social behaviour.
Chief Superintendent David Buckley said: "England making it through to the quarter-finals is an exciting occasion. It has the potential to bring us together and gives many people reason to smile again.
"I understand the importance of the occasion and why people might want to go out and watch the game but please look out for each other.
"If you're keen to watch the match at a pub or other public screening, plan ahead: don't turn up after drinking too much alcohol or you may well be refused admission.
"We want everybody to have a great time, however we also know that excessive drinking can have very damaging, and often unseen consequences that can hurt yourself, others and your families. Be considerate and tolerant of others.
"Officers will be out at about and please know they will act quickly and robustly against anyone hurting others or damaging property."
People out supporting England this evening are also being reminded they should stick to social distancing rules, be drink-aware, and watch your phone and wallet or purse.
Officers are also encouraging people to plan ahead and make sure they know how they're getting home at the end of the night.
Norfolk Police says the public can be reassured that they have experience in policing major events, and where required, will be patrolling troubled spots.
