Norfolk Police say they've managed to find new 'DNA profiles' in their investigation into the murder of Michelle Bettles in Norwich 20 years ago.

22 year old Michelle was last seen alive walking towards the City Centre on St Benedict's Street on March 28 2002.

Her body was discovered in woodland by a side of a country track known as Rush Meadow Road in Scarning on March 31.

Her killer has never been identified.

Earlier this year, on the 20th anniversary of Michelle's death, police launched a forensic review of the evidence in the case using the latest in DNA technology.

They've managed to find new traces of DNA on Michelle's clothing, including the complete DNA profile of a man.

Officers believe the DNA belongs to people who spent time with Michelle, who was a sex worker, in the days and hours leading to her murder.

Major Crime Review manager Andy Guy of Norfolk Police said:

“There have been multiple advances in forensic science over recent years which have significantly advanced this investigation, so I ask anybody who knows what happened to Michelle or has suspicions regarding who may be responsible to do the right thing and contact us.

“I would also urge any man who had legitimate, personal contact with Michelle to come forward and be eliminated from the enquiry, before we contact you.”

After an appeal earlier this year police recieved eight calls from the public with the names of potential friends and contacts of Michelle. These leads are still being investigated.
