Norfolk man rolling barrel of beer across the county for charity- from today
58-year-old David Holliday from Fakenham is looking to push the barrel for 26 miles to raise awareness of testicular cancer
A man from Fakenham is hoping to raise money for a cancer charity by rolling a barrel of beer across Norfolk, from today.
58-year-old David Holliday from Fakenham is looking to push the barrel for 186 miles in a week to raise awareness of testicular cancer. The equivalent of seven marathons in seven days.
It comes as figures reveal that testicular cancer is one of the fastest spreading types of the disease- especially among young men.
"If we can save one life from it, I'd be very happy man"
David Holliday told us why he is making the big push:
"The key thing about testicular cancer is it's primarily a young man's disease. So the idea of this is to grab attention and get people to ask the question, 'what is that idiot doing with that blue barrel?'
"If we can get people to stop, then that's what we're trying to do. It's a hard task but with a very simple aim".
"The really good news is that 96% of young men can be cured if they get this disease.
"The really bad news is that it's dependent on early diagnosis. The treatment is very strong and invasive, so the sooner we can catch it, the better".
"The training has been pretty tough. So to do 186 miles in seven days is a real challenge, at the age of 58.
"I'm not and athlete and it's a push into the unknown, but it's a challenge worth doing. If we can save one life from it, I'd be very happy man".
