Two Norfolk charities granted honours to mark King's birthday
Home-Start Norfolk and Samiritans in Great Yarmouth are among the first to get King's Awards for Voluntary Service
Two Norfolk charities working to support people's wellbeing in the county have been recognised by King Charles III.
The Great Yarmouth branch of national charity Samirtians has been given a The King's Awards for Voluntary Service, as has Swaffham-based Home-Start Norfolk.
The awards have been granted to mark Charles' 75th birthday and are among the first to be granted by the new monarch.
It's the equivalent of an MBE and is the highest honour that can be given to a voluntary organisation.
Yarmouth Samiritans has worked in the town for over five decades, helping to support people experiencing a mental health crisis or at risk of suicide.
Volunteers there say they're 'honoured and delighted' to be given the recognition.
Home-Start Norfolk has been recognised for its work to give local families with young children extra support.
Volunteers at the charity work with new parents and help them make sure their children stay healthy and have the best start in life.
In a comment on social media, the charity wrote: "to be recognised for this award fills us with so much pride."
"Our volunteers' work enables families to develop self-resilience and make long-term positive changes to their lives."
