People from across Norwich are demanding solutions that will lower energy bills permanently and ensure no one goes cold in winter, as part of a campaign in the fight for warm homes that don’t cost the earth.

A petition, launched by Norwich For Warm Homes is one of many which have been submitted to MPs across the country, calling for the rapid-roll out of home insulation in Norwich.

They're also calling for an energy system powered by cheap renewables - both of which, they say will cut bills and emissions.

There is an estimated 49,829 homes with poor insulation in Norwich – those with an energy performance rating of D or lower – making them inefficient and expensive to heat.

Clive Lewis, Member of Parliament for Norwich South:

“It is a sign of Tory failure that our city has some of the most socially deprived and fuel poor neighbourhoods in the country. This community-led initiative shows how fighting for social justice and tackling the climate crisis are one and the same thing. In Parliament, Caroline Lucas and myself, as co-sponsors of the Green New Deal Bill, will continue to call for a retrofitting revolution and an energy pricing overhaul, to ensure warm homes for all across Norwich.”

Chloe Smith, Member of Parliament for Norwich North:

“The government has been clear it understands the impact of high global energy prices on consumers. To support households, the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) will continue until April 2024, limiting the amount households can be charged per unit of gas or electricity and providing a safety net for the most vulnerable.

"The Conservative government is providing an unprecedented package of cost-of-living support worth over ÂŁ104 billion from 2022-23 to 2024-25.

"The Great British Insulation Scheme is another initiative aimed at insulating homes nationwide. The scheme will provide grants for eligible households to improve their energy efficiency, covering the installation of insulation and low-carbon heating until 2026."

Dr Sarah Eglington, Norwich For Warm Homes, said:

“Everyone deserves to live in a warm, comfortable home and have their basic needs met. That’s why we must see the rapid roll out of a street-by-street insulation programme in Norwich, to bring down bills for once and for all."
