Norfolk's hospitals under pressure amid surge in A&E patients
There have been long waits at some of our local hospitals in recent days
The healthcare system across Norfolk is said to be under major pressure, with large numbers of people turning up at A&E departments across the county in recent days.
Patients are facing longer waits for urgent treatment and are being urged by doctors to use the NHS 111 service, pharmacies and GPs.
If you need emergency help the advice is still to dial 999.
In a statement, Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group told us:
“Our health and care system continues to experience high levels of demand and Emergency Department staff are working closely with health and care colleagues to make sure patients are seen as quickly as possible."
“Emergency Departments are open 24/7 for life-threatening emergencies. Patients can help by choosing the right service for their health and care needs.
"For non-life-threatening emergencies, people can book an appointment with their GP, visit a local pharmacy, attend a minor injuries unit or walk in centre.
"They can also contact NHS 111 online or by phone if they need medical advice or not sure which service to access.”
Hospitals in Norfolk are not alone in feeling a surge in post-pandemic patients.
Video emerged on social media on Monday night of a nurse at an Essex hospital warning patients in A&E they were facing a seven and a half hour wait.
