Norfolk football coach: the Lionesses don't have to win the World Cup to inspire the next generation
England are currently playing in the tournament, being held in Australia and New Zealand
The manager of a women's team in Norfolk says the Lionesses don't need to win the World Cup to continue inspiring the next generation.
England are currently playing in the tournament, being held in Australia and New Zealand.
They played Haiti yesterday and next face Denmark on Friday.
Luke Pickford is from Thetford Town Ladies - he reckons Sarina Wiegman's team can bring the cup home: "I think there's a possibility they can go all the way.
"At the moment, the Lionesses are doing great, they've still got lots of momentum after the Euros.
"It'd be great to see them win - it can be done and it would be great for women's football!"
He told us how grassroots clubs can harness the hype around the tournament: "It needs to be offered out to everyone.
"Grassroots are developing and they need to be open to all - allow and encourage everyone to come in and participate.
"Hopefully that will encourage more women to join the game."
He says the game is in a healthy state in Norfolk: "Especially after the Ruos, footballs developed in Norfolk and the participation rate in women's football has increased - it's great to see!"
Finally, Luke told us whether or not the Lionesses bring football home, he's confident the ladies will inspire the country: "Just that media coverage, the vibe, the anticipation, the fact that it's being shown on TV, the fact that the country's getting behind the team, all this will inspire more young people to get involved."
