A politics professor in Norfolk tells us Labour needs to work on how communicates it's vision with the public.

Keir Starmer entered Number 10 for the first time as PM a year ago today- after securing a 411 seat majority.

"This Government really needs to focus on winning back that trust with people"

Alan Finlayson works at the University of East Anglia:

"The characteristic we have in UK politics, and we're not alone in this, is incredible mistrust. That's mistrust of Government and public institutions, which is really fatal for any country.

"So, this Government really needs to focus on winning back that trust with people.

"One of the mistakes early on was for the Government to talk so much about the 'blackhole' in the public finances and the difficulty ahead.

"This meant that the goodwill for the Government started to disappear into anxiety and concern about the financial situation.

"Alongside this- there has also been a lot of mis-steps including the winter fuel payment cuts and the Welfare Reform bill, which has really lost them quite a bit of support.

"On the other hand- they have increasing spending on the NHS and there has already been well over 4 million more elective operations and tests, thanks to that.

"Health waiting lists are coming down, as well, although they are higher than they were before the pandemic.

"Alongside this they have also presented their 10 year plan for the NHS, with a greater focus on preventative medicine.
