Norfolk patient group offering free blood sugar level tests to raise awareness about diabetes
Those going can have their blood sugar levels tested for free
A patient group in Norfolk is raising awareness about diabetes this week - encouraging people to learn more about the disease.
They're hosting an event in The Duke’s Head Hotel in Tuesday Market Place in King’s Lynn on Thursday - and those going can have their blood sugar levels tested for free.
"This is just about getting them to think about their health"
"We are aiming this predominately at men aged between the ages of 40-60. We know that men are the most notorious about not going to see a doctor or a nurse, for a range of reasons. This is just about getting them to think about their health.
"Without the right care and support, people can be at risk of developing some fairly major illnesses. Each week nationally, we know that diabetes leads to 180 amputations, more 770 strokes, 590 heart-attacks and 2,300 cases of associated heart failure."
"I would urge people to look there"
"Things to look out for are tiredness and thirstiness - there are whole range of areas that could mean diabetes is a concern.
"The Diabetes UK website is filled with good information, so I would urge people to look there, if they are concerned about anything at all."
