Decision-makers at Norfolk County Council have approved their budget for the next year, which includes a big hike in council tax.
Council bills will rise by nearly 5% across county- while close to ÂŁ60 million will be made in savings across the year.
With a a net spend increase of nearly ÂŁ30 million to meet rising costs, brought on by double-digit inflation.
"It’s essential we use public money in the best and most efficient ways"
County council leader Councillor Andrew Proctor said:
He was “confident that we have the finances of the council under control and that the budget before you today is balanced, robust and forward looking.
“It’s essential we use public money in the best and most efficient ways we can and that’s what this budget clearly demonstrates.”
"The council isn’t fit for the future"
Labour group leader Steve Morphew said:
"The council isn’t fit for the future. The current strategic review is costing millions to consultants to make our own staff redundant when we have more than 500 vacancies unfilled for over six months."
The spending agreed for each department is:
• Adult social services, £249.5 million
• Children’s services, £232.6 million
• Community and environmental services, £177.1 million
• Strategy and transformation, £12.8 million
• Finance and commercial services, £35.8 million
