South Norfolk and Broadland District councils have signed up to a new campaign to help employees who might be suffering domestic abuse.
By signing the HEAR pledge, South Norfolk and Broadland District councils have committed to providing access to specialist support for employees, ensuring staff are trained to be able to help colleagues and will be supportive and not tolerate domestic abuse in any form.
The councils have pledged to break the silence around domestic abuse and HEAR, help and provide support in the workplace.
South Norfolk Cabinet Member for Better Lives Councillor Yvonne Bendle said:
"We have always taken our staff’s welfare very seriously and have supported the White Ribbon campaign. This horrific crime can have a huge impact on the victim and their families and by signing this pledge we are emphasising our commitment to support our staff. If they need help, we will be there to give it."
Broadland District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Wellbeing Councillor Fran Whymark said:
"Sadly cases of domestic abuse have increased over the past year and we have seen a rise in the use of victim services and helpline calls. We need to do all we can to support victims of this horrendous crime and to encourage them to break the silence. This pledge underlines our ongoing commitment to support our staff’s health and wellbeing and to ensure we are able to offer specialist support."
The councils have also reviewed their policies and processes around domestic abuse to make sure they can provide the right support to their staff.
The campaign is run by the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Group in Norfolk for White Ribbon Day 2020 and beyond.
