A Norfolk-based charity is urging all of us to look out for the signs that somebody is suffering from an eating disorder, this Christmas, to offer them support.

Beat, which is based in Norwich, say symptoms include low moods, irritability and anxiety around food.

"Irritability, low-mood and anxiousness"

Umairah Malik is from the group:

"We do tend to experience a higher volume of people reaching out to us, over the Christmas period.

"That includes people who are directly experiencing an eating disorder or calling on behalf of somebody that they're worried out."

She told us about some of the signs to look out for- to see if somebody's struggling:

"Irritability, low-mood and anxiousness- are the main ones to look out for. People might also be a little quieter than normal or saying no to activities that involves food."

"It's a good idea to speak to people who care about you"

Umairah has this advice for those who needs support at this time:

"Preparing ahead of time is a really important thing to do. So, if you're somebody who suffers from an eating disorder- it's a good idea to speak to people who care about you is vital.

"It's good to make sure there are activities that are not centred around food. There are lots of things- like games or going outside. They can allow people to take a step back from mealtimes."
