Those going for a 'Boxing Day Dip' in Norfolk are being urged by the RNLI to enter the cold water slowly and to float on their back in a starfish shape if they get into trouble.

Data from the 'National Water Safety Forum' shows that 8 people have died in our waterways between 2021 and last year.

"There's always another day for a dip"

Liam Fayle-Parr is Royal National Lifeboat Institution's Water Safety for the East:

"There's a lot effort in preparing to go for a swim, such as packing your bag and dressing up warm. But if you get down there and there's a part of you that's worried about the conditions, stay out, there's always another day for a dip".

Liam also told us what swimmers should do after they get out of the water:

"Get dry and get dressed as quickly as you can. It's important to stay with your friends and a warm sugary drink is always good. It's also best to leave half an hour of 'warm-up' time beyond you head off, just to make sure that nothing goes wrong".
