Staff and contractors of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) will soon receive their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Trust will be spending the next fortnight working to protect its 10,000-strong workforce by carrying out jabs until midnight each day.

Chief Nurse, Professor Nancy Fontaine, told us: "For seven days a week, 12 hours a day for the next fortnight, we are going to be vaccinating our own staff.

"We will get through 10,000 staff and we have extended that to our colleagues who contract with us.

"That is how much we take seriously our role in the community to make Norfolk safer and Covid-free."

NNUH has so far given the first jab to 1,700 care home workers, around 3,500 over 80s, and over 1,000 staff already at the hospital.

Professor Fontaine is also calling out for extra help from former healthcare professionals or people who just "want to provide care" to seek opportunities within the trust.

A call-to-arms announced during the summer last year received huge support from the Norfolk community and it's hoped this will get the same response.

She continued: "All skills and talents are really heartily welcomed. People have said they used to be a nurse or worked in a care home or done admin in clerical, well we need them.

"If people want to come in and if they've worked in the care or hospital sector before, I would love to hear from them.

"We need them, and we need them today."

People who are interested in supporting NNUH are asked to contact the Trust.
