Staff at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital say their 'deepest condolences' are with the family of patient who died after waiting half an hour in an ambulance.

The person who's not been identified, died from a cardiac arrest on Friday night outside of the emergency department after initially being assessed.

The hospital says they were seen as soon as their condition deteriorated.

An NNUH spokesman say they remain very busy and ask that those needing non-urgent treatment contact them virtually before coming in.

Their full statement reads as follows:

“Our deepest condolences are with the family of the patient who died on Friday night.

During a very busy night for our hospital, we were alerted by the ambulance service of a patient arriving by ambulance at our Emergency Department with a suspected infection.

On arrival the patient was immediately assessed and treated by an emergency doctor, but after 30 minutes went into cardiac arrest and transferred from the ambulance to our resuscitation unit for further treatment where they sadly died.

Emergency and urgent care services continue to be very busy and patients are urged to contact NHS 111 first over the phone or online if they need medical advice.”
