New strain of coronavirus made up almost 20% of Norfolk cases last month
New strain of coronavirus responsible for spike in Wymondham cases in November.
The new variant of Covid-19 - announced this week - made up 19 per cent of all cases in Norfolk last month.
That's according to scientists at Quadram Institute who says it's to blame for the spike in cases in the Wymondham area in November.
They stressed, while the new variant might turn out to be more transmissible, it is unlikely to cause more severe disease or impact the vaccine, reminding people that viruses mutating is common.
They also said while the mutation did make it easier for the virus to pass from one person to another, the county still has relatively low infection rates.
