New technology is being rolled out at speeding hotspots across Suffolk in a bid to encourage drivers to slow down.
Ten Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) will be placed in 20mph or 30mph zones were there are persistent problems.
The speed indicators will show how fast drivers are going as they approach.
If they continue to ignore the speed limit the ANPR camera will take a picture of them and record the date, time, speed and vehicle registration.
Persistent offenders will be sent warning letters and may be reported to police.
Suffolk County Council provided ÂŁ400,000 to support a two year trial of the tech.
The trial will be evaluated at the end of the two years to determine if its been effective in cutting speeds.
Councillor Paul West of Suffolk County Council said: “Speeding traffic is a danger to everyone and a blight on the community it passes through.
“This scheme tackles this problem by reminding drivers that they need to slow down - and if they don’t, they can expect to be contacted and told their driving is unacceptable.
“If it makes motorists reflect on how fast they drive and understand the need to slow down then it has done its job.”

"Speeding is one of the main issues the public raises with me, so anything we can do to remind drivers to keep to the speed limit is to be applauded."
