Stargazers will get access to a new observatory on the clifftops at Hunstanton for the first time from this weekend.

The Hunstanton Observatory project has been set up to attract people interested in the night's sky from accross the UK.

Dark conditions and low light pollution in the north and west of Norfolk make it the perfect sport to use telescopes and binoculars.

It will also serve as a solar observatory, where groups can use specialised telescopes to look at the sun, or a space to observe nocturnal wildlife.

The Observatory will launch this Saturday (April 22) and will be open for booking from April 24.

Alan Gosling, chair of King’s Lynn and District Astronomy Society, said: “As a society promoting astronomy we welcome new opportunities for people to learn about the stars and enjoy the wonders that are to be found in the night sky.

“The design and location of the observatory mean that it can also be used by a variety of groups for many purposes, such as nature and geography activities, and we wish it every success.”
