New funding agreed to improve marketplace in Thetford
The area will be transformed with new streetlights and a metal gate marking the history of the market
£20,000 is to be spend on smartening up the marketplace in Thetford.
The cash, which comes from Breckland Council, along with Thetford Town Council will pay for festival-style lighting as well as new lampposts.
New power supplies will also be fitted, to allow market stall holders easier access to electricity.
A new metal archway gate will be installed to celebrate the historic market, which has operated since medieval times.
Cllr Paul Claussen, of Breckland Council, said:
"I am delighted to see Breckland Council working in partnership with Thetford Town Council to improve the marketplace, making it more attractive for local shoppers, supporting market stall holders keen to trade in that area, and increasing opportunities for public events to be held in this historic area of Thetford."
Cllr Roy Brame and Cllr Jane James, whose Breckland Council Wards include the Market place said:
"This new £20,000 investment will help support public events in the centre of Thetford, and celebrate Thetford and its market, which has an impressive history going back to medieval times."
