Norfolk's booster jab rollout has seen nearly half a million third doses be given out so far in around three months, according to Public Health England.

While nearly 2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given out in just over a year across the county.

But Dr Tim Morton, Chair of Norfolk and Waveney's medical committee is slightly concerned by figures from the last few days: "We are beginning to see a slight fall off just prior to Christmas with people worried that they might get side effects from the booster.

"We would be far more concerned if patients got Omicron over the Christmas period and the safest thing is for us is to get as wider coverage of the booster programme as possible".

He says that the county's clinics have seen many recently come forwards for their first and second doses: "There have been a small number who have been reluctant initially and the vaccine clinics are only too happy to welcome those people who are still yet to have their first and second vaccines. They will certainly not be turned away and we'd encourage anyone who's not been vaccinated to get vaccinated".

He confirmed that vaccination centres will be closed on Christmas Day and will re-open on the 29th of the month.

"There is a reluctant from people to get their booster jabs on Christmas and Boxing day. But more importantly we're doing this to give the hard-working and hard-pressed staff, at least some break over this festive period, so they have some chance to re-charge their batteries".

The majority of the clinics will be open tomorrow and accepting walk ins.

But many might be operating on a reduced schedule. So check with your local centre before heading down.
