Murder investigation underway following the death of a Dereham man

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Dereham.

It comes after paramedics attended an address in the town on Sunday 21 July 2024 at around 5am following reports a man inside was unwell.

A man aged in his 30s was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where sadly he died on Sunday evening.

On Tuesday 23 July police were notified of the man’s death and enquiries revealed a serious assault had occurred on Saturday evening, 20 July, outside the Red Lion Public House in Dereham.

A man aged in his 40s was arrested yesterday evening, Wednesday 24 July, on suspicion of murder and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning where he remains.

A Home Office post-mortem examination is due to take place today, 25 July.

Officers believe those involved were known to each other.

Supt Sonia Humphreys said: “We understand our communities will be concerned by this incident and people may see more police officers in the town as we conduct our inquiries.”
