A man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of coercing a woman to have sex with multiple men over three decades while he took photographs and filmed the abuse.

Rodney Johnston, 67, of HMP Norwich, was convicted of three counts of procuring a woman to have intercourse through threats or intimidation, two counts of causing a person to engage in activity without consent, and one count of witness intimidation.

The jury reached their verdicts following an eight-week trial in September.

During sentencing at Norwich Crown Court today, 9th January 2026, Judge Alice Robinson described Johnston’s actions as appalling, adding that he showed no remorse for his crimes.

Johnston was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years.

The court heard how Johnston exploited his victim, whom he threatened and intimidated, forcing her to engage sexually with multiple men while he photographed and filmed the abuse.

The abuse comprised of “outings” to secluded woodland or pre-arranged hotel rooms where the victim would be made to engage sexually with multiple men.

The victim, who has a lifelong right to anonymity, said, “For the first time in decades I am free,” as she begins rebuilding her life.

She described Johnston as a “monster” who used her vulnerabilities against her.

She added, “I felt dirty, sick, used, degraded, humiliated, and terrified – but his became my norm.

I often feel lost and unsure where to begin in rebuilding myself.

I feel anxious about the future, but for the first time in decades I am free.”

Her family expressed pride in her bravery for speaking out.

Senior investigating officer Duncan Woodhams praised the victim’s courage and detailed the extensive work required to bring Johnston to justice, saying, “This sentence cannot undo what happened to her, but we hope she can now build her life on her own terms. She has shown remarkable bravery.”
