Man jailed for 28 months after series of attempted break-ins in Great Yarmouth
It comes after police investigated break-ins at the Merrivale Model Village tea rooms
A man has been jailed for 28 months after a series attempted burglaries in Great Yarmouth last year.
43 year old Paul Bateman, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court after admitting the charges against him.
He was arrested after police arrested break-ins at the Merrivale Model Village tea rooms on Marine Parade in September.
The court took five additional offences into consideration, after Bateman admitted involvement in burglaries and attempted burglaries in Marine Parade, River Walk and Northgate Street in 2021 and 2022.
He spoke to officers working for Operation Converter, who encourage criminals to admit to past offences so they can be released from prison without the possibility of being re-arrested for past crimes.
Police staff Supervisor Duncan Etchells of Norfolk Police said: “ I’m pleased to see that we’ve been able to secure ‘Taken Into Consideration’ admissions from this offender following some excellent work by colleagues from Great Yarmouth in securing the initial charges.
“This work has allowed us to give closure and reassurance to all the victims in this case, and whilst he’s in prison, Bateman is unable to reoffend.
"Although remorseful for his actions, he’ll have some extra time to reflect on how his crimes have impacted the local community.”
