Man jailed after using sledgehammer to smash into ex-partner's home in Wisbech

A man who used a sledgehammer to break into his ex-partner's home in Wisbech has been jailed.

40 year old Micahel Dixon, of Derby Way in Stevenage, broke into a property in William Road at around 2pm on November 25 last year.

He was armed with the hammer and a knife.

During the attack he smashed the windscreens of several cars and dented the bodywork, before using the knife to scratch the paint.

He then turned his attention toward the house, damaging windows and doors as well as a washing machine and fridge freezer.

The victim, who was still inside the house with her child, managed to call the police.

Dixon was arrested outside and was chanrged with criminal damage, burglary and possession of a knife in public.

He admitted the charges at Peterborough Crown Court. He'll spend a year in prison and has been made subject to a five year restraining order.

PC Mark Gatward, of Cambridgeshire Police said:

“This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim and her child, who feared for their safety as Dixon went on this disgraceful rampage.

“As well as the distressing psychological impact of his actions, Dixon caused significant damage to the victim’s property.

“I’m pleased he has now been brought to justice for his actions.”
