39 year old Michael Shrigley, of no fixed address but originally from the Thetford area, was sentenced to four years three months behind bars at Ipswich Crown Court.
Working with police on a scheme called 'Operation Converter', which encourages defendants to admit to their crimes, he admitted to numerous offences.
At court he pleaded guilty to three counts of handling stolen goods, as well as dangerous driving, driving without insurance, going equipped for theft , fraud, five charges of theft from motor vehicles and four commercial burglaries.
He then went on to admit to a further nine offences, including burglaries at shops in Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, Dereham and Thetford.
He also targeted homes, stealing high value items.
In total he is thought to have taken around ÂŁ13,000 worth of goods, causing ÂŁ2,100 worth of damage.
Duncan Etchells from the Op Converter team said:
“Shrigley was a prolific night-time burglar who preyed on residential and business properties and his actions caused misery, distress and upset for his victims.
"Whilst he was on remand he made the nine admissions.
"This process will allow him to be released from prison at the end of his sentence with a clean slate and it also provides a positive outcome to his victims.”
