The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Michael O’Dwyer.
A man has appeared in court charged with murder.
Tyrone Busch, aged 40, of St Withburga Lane, Dereham, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court today, Friday 26 July.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday 30 July.
It comes after paramedics were called to an address in the town at around 5am on Sunday 21 July following reports that a man inside the property was unwell.
He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital where he sadly died on Sunday evening.
On Tuesday 23 July police were notified of the man’s death and enquiries revealed a serious assault had occurred outside the Red Lion Public House in Dereham on Saturday evening, 20 July.
Pending formal coroner inquest proceedings the victim has been identified as 31-year-old Michael O’Dwyer, also known as Michael Spooner.
Michael’s family have asked police to issue the following tribute on their behalf:
“Michael O'Dwyer (aka Spooner) was a kind and gentle soul who always saw the best in people and wanted the best for them. He is greatly loved by his family and his many, many friends and that love will always remain. Michael adored his two sons and has been taken from them far too soon.”
A Home Office post-mortem examination was carried yesterday, Thursday, with the provisional cause of death given as a traumatic head injury.
Police inquiries are continuing and any witnesses or anyone with information that could assist the inquiry is asked to contact Norfolk Police.
