Man arrested following ATM burglary attempt in Great Yarmouth

A man has been arrested for several offences following an attempted theft of a cash machine last night on Southgates Road, Great Yarmouth.

Officers were called to the area at 11.33pm to a report that a JCB was being driven into an ATM.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to flee in the JCB, hitting a petrol pump and damaging vehicles along Exmouth Road, before being stopped by officers on Ordance Road.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of aggravated burglary and taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre, where he was further arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Officers closed the road while initial enquiries were conducted. The road was reopened at approximately 1.10am, with a cordon on the garage forecourt remaining.

Police are searching for a second suspect.
