Man in his fifties dies following Norfolk assault

Police have launched an investigation following the death of a man who was assaulted in Loddon at the weekend.

The victim suffered serious, life-threatening injuries following the incident which happened in Bridge Street near to the King’s Head pub on Friday night (10 November) at 9.30pm.

Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was treated at the scene before being taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The victim, aged in his 50s, died in hospital yesterday (Monday 13 November 2023).

Five men, all aged in their 20s, were arrested on Friday night on suspicion of assault (GBH) and were questioned at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.

They were released on bail to appear at Wymondham PIC on February 7 2024.

Officers arrested a sixth suspect, a man aged in his 50s, on suspicion of assault on Sunday (12 November 2023).

He was also questioned at Wymondham and has since been released on bail to appear at Wymondham PIC on 5 February 2024.

Detective Inspector Sam Pontin, from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, said: “Enquiries have been carried out at the scene over the weekend and a number of witnesses spoken to. These enquiries continue in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and in particular the events leading up to it.

“We understand this incident will come as a shock to the local community and that’s why we’d ask anyone with relevant information that hasn’t yet come forward to make contact with us. We are aware people in the area will have concerns but there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days whilst the investigation continues.”
