RNLI lifeboat crew from Sheringham were called to assist a fisherman in trouble last night.

The report came at around 5.30pm after the man's foot was caught in a tow rope, dragging him into the sea off Sheringham West beach.

He was assisted by onlookers, who called the coastguard and ran on to the beach to turn the boat around. Two onlookers relaunched the boat and drove it back to recover the fisherman just as the Sheringham Lifeboat arrived on scene.

Although wet and cold, the fisherman was unharmed.

Lifeboat crew took two people on to the lifeboat and fitted them with lifejackets - and checked the fisherman was OK.

He insisted on being allowed to drive his boat back to Cromer, so the Lifeboat escorted him to Cromer and watched him safely ashore, before returning to Sheringham to deposit their two passengers safely ashore.
