People across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex named named on New Year Honours List 2023

People across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are being recognised for their selfless service towards others in the King's New Year Honours List.

Carl Smith BEM (Norfolk)

One of those is Carl Smith, an advanced paramedic in critical care at the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

He's also the head of clinical Development for emergency and critical care at the College of Paramedics and a firefighter at Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

Mr Smith, who's been an on-call firefighter for 27 years and flew with Prince William while His Royal Highness was with the East of England Air Ambulance, has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the NHS as well as fire and rescue.

Robert Erith BEM (Essex and Suffolk)

is also awarded a BEM for his services to the environment in Dedham Vale on the Essex and Suffolk border.

Mr Erith is the founder, funder and chair of the Robert Erith National Landscape Award, which recognises the achievements of individuals and groups that have made outstanding contributions to conserving and enhancing the Dedham Vale and Stour Valley.

  • Christopher Samuel Bradbury (Norwich, Norfolk: for services to the community in Reedham)
  • Geoffrey Lowe (Stalham, Norfolk: crew manager at Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service - for services to the community)
  • Albert Thomas Cadmore (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk: for services to the community)
  • Marc Anthony Grayston (Basildon, Essex: chief instructor at Maru Karate Kai - for services to disadvantaged young people and the community)
  • Richard Gregory (Basildon, Essex: for services to the community)
  • Pauline Holden (Young) (Great Baddow, Essex: lately watch manager at Essex County Fire & Rescue Service - for services to the community)
  • Michael Lawrence Ballinger (Dunmow, Essex: for services to the community)

OBE (Order of the British Empire)

-Lauren Hemp, (North Walsham, Norfolk). She's being honoured after helping the Lionesses come second in the Women's World Cup.

MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire)

  • Joseph John Galliano (Coggeshall, Essex: director and co-founder of Queer Britain - for services to heritage, charity, diversity and inclusion)
  • Christopher (Kit) Neil Hunter Gordon (Colchester, Essex: lately chairman, Resources for Autism - for services to people with autism and their families)
  • Donna Elaine McWilliams (Colchester, Essex: deputy group co-ordinator at Stepping Stones Play and Learn - for services to early years and special needs education)
  • Sara Margaret Browne (Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex: for services to the arts and the community)
  • Christine Paula Futter (Norwich, Norfolk: lately chief operating officer, Norfolk and Suffolk Care Support Ltd - for services to adult social care)
  • Melina Elizabeth Raker (Thetford, Norfolk: founder and patron, The YANA Charity - for services to rural mental health and wellbeing)
  • David Martin James Ball (Brancaster, Norfolk: for services to the community in East Anglia)
